“I caught you!” Abdur Rahman screamed with glee as he caught hold of Nana. He pulled off the blindfold he was wearing and handed it over to Nana to wear. Huda began crying for a turn, “Me, Me!”
Not wanting to disappoint her Nana gave in and quickly caught her, despite Nani’s protests that Huda was too small. Nana then tied the blindfold on for her, giving her a turn.
Much to Nana’s regret blindfolded Huda soon bumped into the wall and began crying loudly because her head hurt. Nani now knew it was time to intervene.
Taking Huda into her arms Nani called the children around her, making them all cheer up at the prospect of a new story from her.
“Everyone close your eyes. Now imagine that your eyes can’t open, that your whole life you have to stay like this. Playing blindsman’s bluff is fun only because it’s for a few moments but imagine never ever being able to ever see. Wouldn’t we be bumping into the wall like Huda did?
Imagine not being able to see the people around you. When we play the game we can take off the blindfold to know which person we caught but what about that person who can’t see ever?
How hard it must be for them? Imagine not being able to see all the beautiful things Allah Ta’ala created around us.
Now I want you to open your eyes and thank Allah by saying “Alhamdulillah”.
Say “Alhamdulillah”, and let us each tell what we can see, that makes us happy.”
“Alhamdulillah I can see all my toys.” Abdur Rahman said.
“Alhamdulillah! I can see myself in the mirror so I can change and comb my hair myself.” Khaira said.
“Alhamdulillah I can see and look after my 3 beautiful grandchildren.” Nani said.
The next hour or so passed by in this manner until eventually Nani said, “Alhamdulillah Allah gave us eyes. We must thank Allah by saying Alhamdulillah and we must also thank Allah by showing him that we appreciate this favour of his and are only going to use it in the right way and not use it to do haram.
If you give your friend a sweet and they throw it in the bin will you want to give them another sweet? In the same way we mustn’t misuse and show no appreciation for the eyes Allah has given us by looking at haram.
We mustn’t watch TV.
We mustn’t watch YouTube.
We mustn’t play all those video games because we don’t want Allah Ta’ala to get cross with us and to take away our sight.
It will only be OUR FAULT if we can’t see anymore because we wasted this blessing of Allah by looking at haram.
Not only our eyes but everything that Allah Ta’ala has given us must be used in the halal way. We must always thank Allah Ta’ala for whatever he gives us by saying “Alhamdulillah” and not anger Allah Ta’ala by using his gifts and favours to us in haram ways.
